Evolve

A need for more light in my living room started the evolution of one of my new favorite spots. A "new" gold tree was the icing on the cake.  All of these items I had, with the exception of the gold tree, and they were just hanging around in disarray waiting for their spot.  It came together effortlessly, with purpose and without expectations. And most importantly with love and respect, as each item is either thrifted or from Mother Nature. Ain't life grand?!

Bits and Pieces

For as long as I can remember I have loved to create atmospheres. Rooms, parties, photographs, all had to emit a feeling, every detail having a purpose. When I found out I was having a little girl after having two boys, to say I was excited about creating an atmosphere for her is an understatement. That was two years ago, and her room is still not finished.

We kinda had to do some big house rearranging to get enough bedrooms on the same floor, I lost my own private art studio and a closet, but we made it work. Financial situations arose and I was with child unexpectedly, leaving the Little Bird's room unfinished.

I have been collecting things for the girls' room for a while and am finally getting to pull all things together. I can't wait to reveal the result, though honestly not sure when that will be. Here are a few bits and pieces that I am thinking will make it into their room.

All were found through thrifting, I am trying to use as much thrifted, hand-me-downs and vintage pieces as possible. So far the only "new" stuff I have used is curtains, curtain rods and bedding fabric.

Thrifty Thursday

First off, thank you so much guys for your kind words the other day. In my my heart I know we are all connected, but it sure is a wonderful reminder to see it manifest. I am learning to be gentle with myself and this blog and the people who visit it have been a more powerful catalyst than I could have EVER imagined. I am eternally grateful and hope I am afforded the opportunity to repay in some way.

My post will be short and to the point this week, I missed last week and couldn't bare to miss two in a row. Not too long ago I got to fix up a little spot in my house for my artistic endeavors. I found myself missing something, that light bulb over my head that illuminates all projects. Literally, I needed a task light. I have a stash at my house of all the goodies I collect at the thrift store that haven't found their purpose yet, I went to said stash and found the perfect thang.

Its the wire bottom of a hanging plant holder and I think I paid 50 cents for it. The hole was the perfect size to slip this old pendant light fixture through and voila. My task light. I may jazz up the shade, you know spray paint or wrap it with twine. Until that inspiration hits me I'll keep it just like it is

Thrifty Thursday

Ahhh... this is one of my highlights for the week. Thrifting runs deep through my veins, satisfying my creative needs, my "save the Earth" heart and my anti-commercialism views.  So Cory said we are not required to do a thrift store purchase every week, we are "allowed" to branch out. I am doing just that this week. I didn't purchase either of my goodies; one was re-purposed and the other I found at my parents' house. 

 This is a "case" I made for my kindle. I used an old pair of blue jeans, my grandmother's vintage fabric and an old leather bracelet that didn't quite fit me.

I made this real quick one night before dinner and cut a few corners aka using the bracelet for a closure (no button or snap or even tie) I think it turned out alright, I mean hey, it functions. 

This is the little gem I found at my parents'. I didn't even know they had it, but it is like forty years old. I was like "how come I didn't know you had this book?" My mom was like "I don't know, you want it?" and I was like "uh yeah!" SCORE! D and I can't wait to dig into all it's goodness.

Thrifty Thursday

I had to be all festive this week for Thrifty Thursday. I love me some Easter eggs and baskets. Every year we get our baskets from our Community Thrift store and then donate them back when Easter is over (solving my Easter basket storage issue). I got all four baskets for two bucks and my cute little egg tree for one dollar.

what i got for $2.50

This lamp I got back a few months ago and was originally brassy and rusty. Since it was winter and too cold to spray paint, it sat in our workshop until the other day. I got a can of spray paint in one of my favorite colors and went to town. I paid $2.00 for the lamp (it works) but it did come shadeless. I am making do with one I took off the lamp that used to sit on the table. I love my new lamp; I think it pretty much rocks. I will have so much fun thinking of different displays to go in it.

My next find, well actually my husband's, is this book for 50 cents. He loves all nature and earth books, so this is right up his alley. It has a lot of interesting things in it, plus I think the cover is pretty neat.

When I was a little girl my mama had this jug on a table filled with orange pine cone flowers. I loved it and wanted it oh so much. When I grew up I got the jug. Now, I am not sure how old it is or where it came from, not sure if my mama knows, but I don't care. I LOVE IT!

Several years later, I found two more at a yard sale my grandma was having. I snatched them up. A set, a set, I had a set. (Insert happy dance)

Now they rest in my kitchen and bring me so much joy. They remind me of being a little girl and make me wonder what goodies of mine my babes will covet.

Thrifty Thursday

Ooo, ooo, ooo! I am so excited. Cory over at Lady Cordelia has begun hosting Thrifty Thursday. I adore thrifting and really learned the ropes over eight years ago from my mother-in-law, who learned it from her mother an avid dumpster diver and garage sale guru.

We have a few little thrift stores in our town, but my favorite is the community thrift store that donates  the majority of the money back in our town. I "rent" things from there as a lot of what I purchase there gets donated right back. It makes me feel all fuzzy inside, helping the planet and it's human inhabitants all at the same time. Now on to the juicy stuff...

All of the above were found at the community thrift store. I love me some white bud vases. The two smaller ones were $0.50 and the tall one was $1.50. Now those teal candleholders. Oh how I am in love with those teal candleholders. I got them for $2.00 for the pair! Yep. They have some chipped paint but that gives them some character, right.
